So after having sent the email I thought I can send in the applications now and just do it but now I’ve realized I have to wait for my references to email back saying okay before I can do it so now I’m sat here in this limbo waiting to hear from them and it sucks.

Though going to Robin Hood tomorrow with archery, should be fun.

So I finally sent the emails to my references, something that I should have done three weeks ago but for some reason just couldn’t get myself to do, it wasn’t that hard though it did take about an hour to compose a simple email outlining what masters I’m applying to and how the references need to be done. But I bit the bullet and I did it so now I can sort of relax and not have that hanging over my head, means I need to get the Southampton and Exeter apps in now but whatever should have done it earlier, can’t change past only move forward.

In other realms haven’t been for a run in two weeks, the whole motivation/busyness plus being exhausted all of last week hasn’t helped. Also my earphones went so I have to go buy new ones.

In knitting news, Annika loves her hat (Kumquat Swirls) so that makes me happy. Blocking worked wonders for it, stretched out the brim some so it fits comfortably now and added really lovely drape where it was a bit stiff before. I forgot to take pictures of it before I gave it too here but I’m hoping to meet up with her this week and take some pictures so post up about that soon.

The Swallowtail is also blocked and absolutely beautiful, sometimes I look at it and can’t believe that I made that. Going to go take pictures today. Also the fingerless gloves are coming along nicely, I’ve finished the first one except for the thumb. The patterning, even the bobbles is very easy and I knit the majority last night. I used an elastic bind off because I was worried about the hand part being too tight, unfortunately it’s a bit loose and wonky, I can probably block it into something a bit more neat looking but I’ve learned my lesson, which is what don’t these things does.

Otherwise we had our end of year archery dinner last night which was very nice, the club gave me chocolate 🙂 Bit sad to be leaving and ending things but that’s life I suppose.

Last week wasn’t the most productive in terms of the dissertation but I did manage to find and read a few papers that have helped me towards what I’m hoping will be what I’m really getting at. I got quite a lot done today though, all 155 shannon index calculations though I’m trying to get my data normal which isn’t very easy. Hopefully I can get an earlier start tomorrow.

I worked on my personal statement over the weekend with my parents’ help and I’m much happier with it, I think it comes across much more interesting now than before and I managed to put a little humor and passion in too. I’ll take it along to the careers centre tomorrow and see what they think. Then just email my references and I can start to get applications out.

That’s about it for now. I haven’t been running for a week, rain then a cold now more rain and so much work. Hopefully I can get one in soon I miss it and it does make me feel good about myself when I do it. Also not much knitting going on at the moment. I’m on the last two repeats of the budding lace pattern and then it’s nupp time which is a bit daunting. Maybe will get some of that done this week. Now I should go to bed, the time change yesterday has sort of gotten to me, doesn’t feel as late as it is.

Finally got those pictures taken. There’s really nice light at the moment even for taking pictures inside which is what I’m sort of forced to do at the moment. It’s nice to finally have pictures on my Ravelry project page rather than just the balls of yarn, pretty as they are. In other knitting news, my swallowtail is coming along though I messed up half a row in the budding lace repeat because I misread the pattern and did the wrong set up stitches, at least I know what I did and it hopefully shouldn’t show too much. Fingers crossed on that.

Annika has commissioned me do a hat for her, lucky for she has supplied the yarn and it’s The Icing Swirl Hat  from Whimsical Little Knits so I have the pattern too. I ordered needles the other day and they came today so I will start on that soon. From what I hear it’s a pretty quick knit so maybe a week or so, knitting at half speed that I usually do.

Other news, went running this morning. I’m on week 4 of c25k which is 3 minutes, walk for 90 sec then run for 5 minutes. I’m on the second day repeating the week because I was having trouble getting up to the full five minutes. I almost did it today, I only took one walking break and only 10-20 seconds at that in each five minute interval. I think I can push myself next time and do the whole five minutes. It’s nice to see myself make this sort of progress and know that if I keep at it I’ll be able to run longer and longer times. And then I can start trying for things like distance and pace. I’ve joined dailymile.com and have been keeping track not just of my running but also my daily walking and other exercise. It’s a really nice way to look at your fitness in general. Also it’s amazing that I walk about 2-5 miles just in an average day between walking back and forth between town.

I should probably go now and go into town and do some work on the dissertation. I’m not working as hard as I could, especially as I’m not of in a muddle at the moment about what to do about my Manorbier data. It’s all the totals for the stations when what I really need is the actually quadrat data. It just means that my sample size is really small and if I try to expand it by splitting up the totals it is just homogenizing a very heterogeneous environment and it won’t give me results that represent reality. I might go and ask Will on Monday, I hear tears work well.

Also need to do some revision of the personal statement and take it in for Monday, and email about references. Gosh, so much to do. I can do it, never fear.

After two weeks, mainly to give my legs a break as it was feeling like shin splints coming on, but also some bad weather, being away and general stress I finally went for a run. It was a bit of a struggle to just convince myself to go. I decided that the only reason I didn’t want to was because I believed that I couldn’t do it and I can so I needed to just go do it and then even if I couldn’t do I would actually know and it wouldn’t be for lack of trying. Anyhow, long story short, I went and did my third week 3 run and it was great. It was challenging but in a good way and I was able to run the interval with a minimum of discomfort. I’m going to just go for it and start week 4 which I think will be a bit of a stretch as the time moves up to 5 minutes but I’m willing to give it a shot. I really want this thing to work and be able to run for longer distances and times. I’m already eyeing up 5K races for late summer when I’m at home. Ever the competitor it will give me a goal and a reason, other than fitness for why I’m doing this, plus the fact that you usually get t-shirts with these things and it looks impressive to have them, or at least I think so.

In terms of pushing myself to do things, I’m struggling to get myself to start my personal statement at the moment (not to mention the dissertation). I know I am not comfortable writing, especially about myself but I need to just start and get stuff down and then I can go back and polish it. But the sooner I start, the sooner I can take it in to the Careers Service and they can look at it, and the sooner I can get these applications out. So I need to forget that I’m not comfortable writing about me and just do it.
